Clark Financial Solutions | Reston, Virginia
Part-Time | Year-Round | Potential Hybrid Opportunity
About Clark Financial Solutions
Clark Financial Solutions is a growing, independent financial planning firm serving individuals, families, business owners, and retirement plan clients throughout Northern Virginia and beyond. Our team takes a comprehensive approach to financial planning and is committed to providing an exceptional level of service to the families we serve.
We are building a year-round internship program designed to give local college students meaningful exposure to the financial planning profession while providing critical behind-the-scenes support to our Client Service and Financial Planning teams.
This is not a traditional summer internship. We are looking for students who want to become part of our team throughout the academic year, learn how a financial planning practice operates, and take ownership of important work that contributes directly to an excellent client experience.
Position Overview
The Client Service & Financial Planning Intern will support our team with the detailed, behind-the-scenes work required to maintain accurate client records, prepare for financial planning and review meetings, and keep client information organized and up to date.
This is primarily a non-client-facing position. Interns will work closely with members of our Client Service and Financial Planning teams and gain hands-on experience with the technology, processes, documentation, and operational systems used within a professional financial planning firm.
We anticipate maintaining a team of approximately 2–4 part-time interns throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Entering and updating client financial information in eMoney
- Supporting client data collection and maintenance through PreciseFP
- Gathering and organizing financial documents needed for financial plans and client reviews
- Pulling account statements, reports, and other documentation for client files
- Updating client account values, assets, liabilities, income, expenses, insurance information, and other planning data
- Reviewing client files to identify missing, incomplete, or outdated information
- Preparing financial planning data for advisor and planning-team review
- Organizing electronic client records and maintaining consistent file documentation
- Assisting with preparation for annual and periodic client review meetings
- Updating internal tracking systems, spreadsheets, CRM records, and workflow tools
- Supporting data cleanup and special projects within the firm's technology systems
- Assisting with document management, uploading, naming, and electronic filing
- Helping maintain accurate information across the firm's various technology platforms
- Supporting internal client-service workflows and administrative follow-up
- Assisting with periodic operational, compliance, and recordkeeping projects
- Taking ownership of recurring administrative projects that allow our Client Service and Financial Planning teams to spend more time directly serving clients
Responsibilities will expand as interns become familiar with the firm, demonstrate accuracy and reliability, and progress through our internship development program.
What You'll Learn
This internship is designed to provide practical exposure to the day-to-day operations of a financial planning firm. Interns will have the opportunity to learn:
- How comprehensive financial plans are built and maintained
- How financial advisors prepare for client review meetings
- How financial planning software such as eMoney is used in practice
- How client information moves from data collection to financial planning and implementation
- How investment, retirement, insurance, tax, estate, and cash-flow information fits into a client's overall financial picture
- How a professional financial advisory firm manages workflows, documentation, compliance, and client service
- The importance of accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and follow-through in financial services
For students considering careers in financial planning, wealth management, finance, or financial services, this position provides an opportunity to see how the profession actually operates from the inside.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for students who are:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university
- Pursuing a degree in financial planning, finance, business, economics, accounting, or a related field
- Interested in financial planning, wealth management, or financial services
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working with numbers, financial information, and technology
- Able to follow established processes and checklists
- Reliable and able to manage recurring responsibilities independently
- Comfortable performing detailed work that requires accuracy and concentration
- Willing to ask questions and learn new systems
- Professional and trustworthy when handling confidential client information
- Able to work effectively as part of a team
Previous financial-services experience is not required. We are more interested in finding students with strong attention to detail, curiosity, professionalism, and a willingness to learn.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Part-time position, approximately 10–20 hours per week
- Year-round availability strongly preferred
- Scheduling can be coordinated around college classes
- Additional hours may be available during school breaks
- Initial training and onboarding will primarily take place in our Reston, Virginia office
- Hybrid and virtual work opportunities may be available for the right individual after successful training and demonstrated proficiency
- Remote-work eligibility will be based on performance, reliability, ability to work independently, information-security requirements, and the nature of the work being performed
- Certain responsibilities, training sessions, and team activities may require in-office attendance regardless of hybrid status
We are particularly interested in students who can remain with the internship program for multiple semesters rather than participating for only one summer.
Confidentiality & Professional Standards
Because interns will have access to sensitive financial and personal information, maintaining client confidentiality is an essential responsibility of this position.
Interns will be expected to follow all Clark Financial Solutions policies regarding confidentiality, cybersecurity, information security, document handling, technology use, and protection of client information.
The ability to work remotely will require consistent adherence to the firm's technology and information-security standards.
A Program Designed for Growth
Our internship program is designed to reward students who demonstrate initiative, accuracy, professionalism, and a desire to learn.
Interns will have the opportunity to progress through multiple levels of responsibility as they develop their skills and demonstrate proficiency.
Our goal is not simply to hire students to complete administrative tasks. We want to create a meaningful development program that gives students an opportunity to understand the financial planning profession, develop real-world skills, and potentially build a longer-term career within financial services.
For exceptional interns, the program may also create a pathway toward future opportunities with Clark Financial Solutions after graduation.
